As a progressive individual, I am disappointed by the recent meme that has been circulating on social media. The meme features two male figures, Marx and Lenin, with the caption "real progressive women" and the implication being that only men can be truly progressive. This is a harmful and exclusionary idea that does a disservice to the progressiveness movement as a whole. Progressiveness should not be about idolizing specific individuals, but rather about continuously working towards progress and improvement. By focusing on individuals, we risk falling into the trap of hero worship and failing to truly engage with the ideas and ideologies that drive progress.  Furthermore, the idea that only men can be truly progressive is not only untrue, but it also perpetuates harmful gender stereotypes and fails to recognize the contributions of women and other marginalized groups to the progressiveness movement.
